Mangrove and Spruce delve into our Anglo-Saxon past

Year 5 had a fabulous Anglo-Saxon Workshop with Portals to the Past on Monday this week. It was great to see so many children dressed up as Anglo-Saxons for our immersion. Our Anglo-Saxon warrior made the whole day fun and engaging and Year 5 enjoyed how he brought our history topic to life. The children learned through quizzes, games, interactive role play and exploring artifacts. Some even had the opportunity to try on armour and hold weapons. We are looking forward to building on this new learning as we delve deeper into the lives of our ancestors.

Pupils enjoying school lunch today were treated to a surprise as the catering team all dressed up for the occasion. We are sure it raised a smile to have lunches served by clowns and an elephant!

It was a single goal from opponents, Maple, which saw the Y6 boys 6 a side team finish runners up in the annual tournament held at Colney Heath Primary School on Saturday.

Having topped their qualifying group on the Wednesday with a 4-0 win against Sandridge and 1-0 wins against Bernard's Heath and Oakwood, Prae Wood were one of the twelve teams organised into two pools for the Saturday tournament where there were definitely not going to be any easy games.

In the first game, the team lost 1-0 to Wheatfields before securing a 1-0 win against Killigrew, the first time they have managed to beat them this season.  Goalless draws followed against Skyswood and Garden Fields meaning the final game was a must win if the team wanted to progress as one of the top two teams in their pool.  On a day when goals seemed hard to find for Prae Wood, but where goalie, Hugo, pulled off some excellent saves to prevent us conceding, they did manage the decisive score against Samuel Ryder with a goal from Ed which saw a 1-0 win for Prae Wood and the team topping their pool.

A final followed against Maple who capitalised on a break to score in the first half.  Neither team were able to add to the score in the second half.  Although there was initial disappointment to have not won the final, the team were proud of their achievements.  As Year 5s last year, they finished fourth overall in the Year 5 event, so their final game together representing Prae Wood meant a well deserved improvement on their placing a year previously, a new cup for the trophy cabinet and a runners up medal for all involved, including coaches Mr Pugh and Mrs Paine.  Well done!
