THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!

2023/2024

Wow! What an incredible year so far for fundraising and we have not finished yet!

Your support has meant the PWSA has funded a new piano, balance bikes and helmets for EYFS, new topic books for all years, sports week workshops, science data loggers, high vis jackets and clip boards for school trips, athletics vests and awesome new play apparatus, outdoor theatre and mud kitchen for the Reception and Nursery playground. And, it doesn’t stop there…

Welcome to the new KS2 outdoor, covered, quiet area!

Over the Summer Holidays, KS2 will have a new quiet area built in the playground, complete with astro-turf, which is being funded (£9,000) by the PWSA.

The colourful and weather-resistant pergola will house board game tables and sand boxes filled with construction blocs and toys! This will provide an area for those who would like to have some quiet time at lunch and breaks to sit and play a game or delve into some expert building!

image

AND THE PWSA IS ALSO FUNDING THIS YEAR......

  • ·         A new trolley with kitchen equipment for food technology
  • ·         A refresh of science equipment and consumables across all years
  • ·         Support for the school Eco-Warriors to purchase a plant for each classroom to improve air quality
  • ·         New equipment for the Year 1 courtyard

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Your fundraising and continuous support really does MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

WHAT IS THE NEXT PROJECT?

You may have noticed, in the KS2 playground, the area by the MUGA has become un-usable due to the significant tree roots from a protected tree. The rubber chipping area has been home to picnic benches and ping pong tables, which the children love to use but, unfortunately, the continuous replacement of rubber has become un-sustainable.

The PWSA will be raising funds throughout the remainder of the school term and the beginning of the next school year to support a significant contribution to enhancing this area into a more exciting and useable play space.

Can you help us raise £10,000? We look forward to sharing the plans with you......

2022/2023

Your phenomenal fundraising in 2022/23 enabled the PWSA to provide £20,000 towards funding the new library, £5,000 sensory garden signage & KS1 playground storage, a new sound system for the hall and an amazing enrichment fund of £6200 to be shared across each class.

What are we planning next?

Sadly, fundraising for projects has been severely affected by the covid-19 pandemic. We are still trying to plan ways for the community to come together safely and support each other, so please be in touch if you have any ideas....

Sensory Garden

The next main project is to provide a sensory garden in the school grounds. It is being designed to stimulate the senses and it will provide a place for the pupils to observe nature through play, as well as providing a quiet place for those who like to have a bit of calm.

What have we done?

Every year we donate enrichment money to all the classes, which allows teachers to enliven and enrich the classroom teaching with visits, events and/or activities. We also make an annual contribution towards the Year 6 residential trip. We fund the annual visit by a theatre group to perform a Christmas panto to the whole school and source Easter Eggs for the annual hunt

Prae Wood's 50th Birthday Celebrations

On 23rd April, Prae Wood turned 50 and we were very keen to help the school celebrate. We ran a competition to design a badge, which was won by Aurelia in Year 6 with a fantastic design incorporating balloons and a shooting star. The design was turned into a pin badge and everyone associated with Prae Wood on the day of their birthday was gifted a commemorative badge to take home. We also produced banners and arranged balloons and confetti cannons for a whole-school gathering on the field. Beyond this, we launched our 50kms for 50 years sponsored challenge, where pupils are invited to cover 50kms in whichever way they choose, whether that be by running, skipping, walking, scooting, cycling- the options are endless! For further images of the day, visit the page Prae Wood is 50!

An update for the Nursery sheds

EYFS put in a request for funding to paint the tired-looking sheds in their outdoor areas. Staff got together during the Easter holidays to spruce up the paintwork and add to the longevity of the equipment.

PWSA Easter Trail 2021

Back by popular demand, the PWSA managed an Easter Trail around the local area, with families once again decorating windows to surprise and delight those who followed the PWSA map. There was a word search challenge and a prize for best-dressed window for Lauren P in Year 2.

Easter 'Bear Hunt' 2021

We were gifted some lovely chocolate bears from Lindt so, this year, instead of an egg hunt all the children joined in on a Bear Hunt! We catered for children with allergies and made sure everyone had a delicious treat to take home.

Christmas fun, despite Covid...

Although we couldn't run our wonderful Christmas Fair in December 2020, we still found ways to celebrate amongst our school community. We hosted a Festive Fun Day on December 4th, and our ever-popular Class Hampers raffle took place too. The children had a fantastic time at the Festive Fun Day, with Christmassy-themed games and events and even a zoom call from Father Christmas! Whilst the support from families with coordination from the Class Reps meant that the raffle raised a fantastic amount as everyone hoped to be a winner of one of the beautiful themed hampers put together by each class.

PWSA Autumn Trail

We ran a fun NEW event around the October half term asking volunteers to decorate some windows in their houses, which were then marked on a map for everyone to visit. This was a fantastic success and raised over £700- thank you SO much to everyone who helped! The winning window was voted for by pupils and was awarded to the Goldbrom family

Seating Mushrooms

The story chairs donated by Mrs Stephenson when she retired looked a bit lonely, so the school asked for funding to provide additional seats to surround them in the shape of mushroom stools. These were made possible by the money raised by the PWSA, to enhance play and encourage story telling amongst the students.

Outdoor Reading Boxes

During Book Week, Mrs Sheppard revealed the Outdoor Reading Boxes, which were funded by the money raised by the PWSA. The designs were drawn up by the Year 6 students, with the help of Mrs Robinson and Marlborough School. Students will now be able to donate books or adopt ones in order to foster good reading habits and understand the value of sharing.

New play equipment for the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds

We were successful in fundraising for a total refurbishment of the play equipment in the infants' and juniors' playgrounds, with works taking place during the Summer holidays in 2019. The new equipment has been really well received by the children and they are having a wonderful time using it.

EYFS Coveralls and storage

The PWSA have recently helped the school by paying for new waterproof overalls for the Foundation Stage classes to use when playing in their superb mud kitchen. Great fun for the children (and great news for us that do their washing!)  Storage trolleys, which will be used to keep them safely stored and easily accessible, were also funded. Thank you!

SUMMER FAIR 2019

We were really pleased to announce a record-breaking total profit from our 2019 Summer Fair; together we have raised £10,000!!

It was an excellent day, which was really well attended by Prae Wood families and our community and, as the sun shone down on our circus theme, everyone seemed to have a wonderful time.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in supporting us. The Summer Fair is always our most significant event and it's a great feeling to know that all the hard work put in by the committee, class reps, staff, parents and children will really make a difference to enriching the school environment.....

Sun and Rain shelter for the KS1 playground

Installation work for this fantastic shelter for the Key Stage 1 playground was completed in early December 2018.  This has been funded entirely by the fundraising efforts of the PWSA and we are really grateful for your support- it means we can enhance and enrich the environment in a really tangible way for the children at Prae Wood.

This flexible space provides shelter in the winter and shade in the summer and can easily accommodate 20 children.
