School Lunches

Our catering company is ASPENS; we started working with them in January 2022. They specialise in school food and only work in the education sector. Their kitchens provide home-cooked food each day and cater for individual dietary requirements. Their aim is not only to provide food but also to help educate children and raise awareness about nutrition, food and where it comes from, so that they can make informed and mindful choices. We were delighted with the results of our recent catering audit (October 2023), some of which we can share with you below:

"The food standards at Prae Wood Primary School are really very high and the reputation of the school

and its food offer is being talked about in the local community. This success story is because of an

excellent dedicated and experienced unit manager but also due to Aspens supporting the school....

The food offer/standards being served are of an exceptional standard and is fully attributed to the

manager on site. The food is of a very high quality and beautifully presented. It is much more akin to a

restaurant than a school dining service. Well done to all involved. It is always such a pleasure to

witness such a high standard of food in a Primary School.

The salad bar is an extremely important part of the meal experience at Prae Wood Primary School to

both pupils and staff. The catering team have developed a super offer, and the school is keen that this

continues in its current format. I witnessed many pupils and staff enjoying the salad bar on the day of

the audit"

Meal pattern options at Prae Wood

If you would like to order a school lunch for your child, or change their existing meal pattern please email the School Office.

We require 2 week's notice, by email, to make any amendments, please email admin@praewood.herts.sch.uk.

The following meal pattern options are available:

School Lunch 5 days per week OR
School Lunch on a Thursday only (with a packed lunch from home on the other days) OR
Packed Lunch 5 days per week

Cost of school meals per day:

Nursery £2.00

Years R - 2 currently receive Universal Free School Meals priced at £2.41

Y3-Y6 £2.50

Please note that Halal meat is not used in any of the meat dishes on the menu

We make sure that our Food Festival lunch menus are packed with comfort dishes and, at the same time, we help pupils to take their first steps with new tastes to explore. We make the most of fruit and vegetables that are in season, because that’s when they taste best and are the most planet friendly too.

Special Diets

Special diets are an integral part of our catering provision, whether as a result of an ethical or religious belief or a food intolerance or allergy. To register this as a requirement please complete and return the special diets form to the school as soon as possible. We operate a NUT FREE kitchen and school therefore no special dietary menu is required if your child has a Nut Allergy.
