Summer Term
Year 5 enjoyed a fabulous Anglo-Saxon Workshop with Portals to the Past at the start of term. Our Anglo-Saxon warrior made the whole day fun and engaging and he really brought our history topic to life.
The children learned through quizzes, games, interactive role play and exploring artifacts. Some even had the opportunity to try on armour and hold weapons.
We are looking forward to building on this new learning as we delve deeper into the lives of our ancestors.
Last half term our history topic was 'The Stone Age to the Iron Age'.
We focused on:
Legacy - How have developments from the Stone Age to the Iron Age impacted modern life?
Year 5 travelled back to prehistoric Britain to experience what life was like for early man on their trip to Celtic Harmony. They learnt how to make fire; how to pound vegetables and herbs to make soup; how to build sturdy shelters out of long sticks, bendy twigs and leaves; how to make tools out of flint and other stones as well as how to find food and hunt animals. The children spent the day in two tribes: Mammoth Tribe and Wolf Tribe and enjoyed experiencing what it might have been like to live in a roundhouse!
